Next to the air we breathe, water is the most important element in our body. It makes up 50%-65% of our bodies depending on our sex, age and health. So it stands to reason that you would want to be drinking the best and most high quality water that you can. Filtered water is a great choice.
There are several types of water for us to consider:
Plain old tap water
Benefit – It's easy. It's convenient and it comes right out of your kitchen faucet.
Drawback – Municipal water is safe to drink however there can be contaminants from your home water pipes and such things as chlorine which is not the best for our healthy gut bacteria (however it is MUCH better than drinking bacteria that can make you extremely and immediately sick)
Bottled water
Benefits – It’s easy. It’s convenient.
Drawbacks - Research shows that up to 40% of bottled water is tap water that may or may not have been filtered. Plastic water bottles are terrible for the environment. In addition the plastic from the bottled water can leach into the water we are drinking which is a concern.
Distilled water
Benefits – Technically the purest form of water and is healthier than unfiltered water.
Drawbacks - Distilled water is boiled and evaporated away from its dissolved minerals. The water then becomes acidic and seeks to balance itself by drawing minerals right out of your body so it is not recommended for long term use.
Alkaline water
Benefits – Can soothe acid reflux, may help your body maintain a healthy pH balance for optimal health.
Drawbacks – It costs money to maintain filters, not a lot of research to prove the health benefits claimed.
Vitamin water
Benefits – Contain a few vitamins and minerals.
Drawbacks – Are full of high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors and additives.
Filtered water
Benefits - An increased intake of pure, filtered water will enhance, nutrient absorption, proper and efficient cell function, skin hydration, detoxification and overall health.
Filtered water is more affordable than bottled water.
Filtered water tastes better than tap water.
Filtered water is better for the environment than plastic water bottles.
Removes chlorine and contaminants that may be in your household water pipes.
It is cost effective.
Here are a few more points to consider about filtered water:
A good quality, whole house water filter will remove the worst contaminants from your source water (tap or well) without removing the naturally occurring minerals, which are critical for optimal health. The type of water filter you choose (such as whole house, counter-top, under sink, or pitcher) will, however, determine how effective your water is filtered. Drinking water filters that employ more than one type of filtration are going to produce much cleaner water than a filter pitcher.
