If hormone imbalance and your menstrual cycle is a challenge for you then seed cycling is a great way to connect back to your true nature and get a better handle on your symptoms. Although the idea of seed cycling may seem unusually simple to be effective; Mother Nature reminds us that all things are connected and that includes us!
Before the invention of artificial light, our bodies were in tune with the waning and waxing of the moon. This was one of the ways our bodies stayed in a balanced hormonal rhythm which is 28 days; the same time it takes for one lunar cycle to complete. This is not merely a coincidence! Seed cycling embodies this natural rhythm making it an easy and all natural practice your body will recognize.
It’s very gentle nutritional support that encourages your cycle to follow its natural rhythm and gives the hormones gentle nudges in the right direction. Best of all, it’s done with whole foods, not with drugs, so it’s more natural, simple, inexpensive and gives you a whole different way to keep in contact with your body. Seed cycling helps your body to find a more balanced hormone status which in turn can help with most hormone imbalance symptoms such as:
- Acne
- PMS
- Irregular Cycle
- Infertility or sub-fertility
- Too light or too heavy bleeding
- Peri-menopause
- Post-menopausal hormone symptoms like low libido or depression
- PCOS
- Irregular cycle
Be reminded however that seed cycling for hormone balance is NOT a quick fix – you’re working to re-establish the rhythms of your body and that takes time. Typically you will start noticing changes after 3-4 cycles but the great news is that because this is simply using foods it is relatively safe* to combine with other therapies and can help to enhance their actions.
If you feel like you need a little extra push in the right direction, then you can also add supportive oils to the seed cycling protocol. Fish oil or flax oil, about 1500 mg combined EPA and DHA can be added to Days 1–14 and Evening Primrose Oil can be added to days 15–28.
Day 1 – 14 (Follicular phase):
1 tbsp flax seeds
1 tbsp pumpkin seeds
1500mg Omega 3 fatty acid supplement – Fish oil or Flax oil
Day 15 – 28 (Luteal phase):
1 tbsp sunflower seeds
1 tbsp sesame seeds
1500mg Evening Primrose oil (we like Efamol)
Eat your 2 tablespoons of mixed seeds every day according to your cycle. The seeds should be ground in a mortar and pestle or coffee grinder and added to smoothies, soups, oatmeal, yogurt, cereal or eaten as is.
