Gentle Detoxification Tips
No comments yet

We are exposed to toxins on the daily. From air pollution, synthetics, radiation, molds, chemicals such as herbicides and pesticides, to refined and highly processed foods. When our bodies become overburdened with these toxins it may present as a rash on the skin, food allergies, fatigue, weight gain or other troublesome symptoms.

Good thing our bodies are equipped with their own detoxification mechanisms. These include the skin, liver, kidneys, lungs, colon and lymphatic system. These systems act as filters that remove toxins and other by-products that the body doesn’t need or no longer has use for. So what are some ways we can support our own body’s detoxification systems?

HERBS: Try incorporating milk thistle, burdock root, dandelion root, nettle, and cilantro. These can be consumed in teas, supplements or added to your food.

FOOD: Beets, dandelion greens, turmeric, cruciferous vegetables, lemon, berries, artichokes, and lemons all have detoxification benefits.

FRESHLY SQUEEZED LEMON WATER: A great way to kickstart digestion and support liver detoxification. It also supports peristalsis in the bowels which can be helpful to move those toxins out efficiently.

INFRARED SAUNA: May help detox environmental toxins through sweat. The far infrared light found in these saunas can reach furthest into the body (at a cellular level), where these fat soluble toxins are stored. Alternatively, if you don’t have access to a sauna, hot yoga or any other form of exercise will be beneficial for detoxification.

When introducing these foods, herbs and/or lifestyle recommendations into your routine, be sure to start slow and listen to your body.
